Hulshorst is located between Nunspeet and Harderwijk in the forest-rich ridge of hills called the Veluwe. Here you will find yourself in a beautiful natural area with lovely walks and cycle paths beside the water and through the woods of the Veluwe. The countryside offers more than just peace. There are also picturesque villages, excellent places to eat, fun attractions and wellness opportunities.

Drifting sand and heathland on the Veluwe

The Veluwe is the largest continuous nature reserve in the Netherlands. It covers a total of 91,200 hectares, with chains of woods, heathland and sand drifts. The Veluwe is wonderful in every season of the year! But in August and September the colours of the many areas of heather are at their most beautiful. You can find yourself nearly eye to eye with deer and wild boar. Less well known is the fact that the Veluwe has hundreds of kilometres of bridle paths. Or that you can test your skills 18 metres up in the air in a forest climbing park. So never say that the Veluwe is boring!

The Veluwe lakes

The Veluwe is not just made up of woods and heath. You can also enjoy water activities and beaches! Five kilometres from Hulshorst are the best-known lakes, which together are known as the Veluwerandmeren. Would you like to try out water sports such as wakeboarding, knee boarding, water skiing or kitesurfing? The lakes are popular for all these activities because of their perfect location and as they are not very deep.

Harderwijk

Seven kilometres from Hulshorst is Harderwijk, which you might know from the Dolfinarium, the largest sea mammal park in Europe. This is a great attraction, but Harderwijk has more to offer. It is a cosy and welcoming historical town. Enjoy a meal there or fill your picnic basket for a day out at the town’s own beach. One recommendation is Restaurant Vuluvia, where you can sit outside with a view over the old fishing harbour. You can also hire a dinghy for an outing on the water.

Wellness spas on the Veluwe

The Veluwe is a place to find rest and relaxation. It boasts a large number of saunas and health and fitness resorts. Both the Veluwse Bron health spa and the renovated Zwaluwhoeve health spa are close to Hulshorst. The Zwaluwhoeve is three kilometres from Apollo Hotel De Beyaerd. Would you like to experience total relaxation? Reserve your massage or facial treatment.

Daytrips with children

Kids can let off steam in the wide-open spaces, but they also love a day out to an attraction. There are all kinds of wildlife and amusement parks nearby. Walk among the apes and monkeys at Apenheul Primate Park. The Royal Dutch Touring Club (ANWB) named this park the best outing in the Netherlands in 2016. For more adrenaline, try the rollercoasters of Walibi Holland. Or is that too scary? In the Koningin Juliana Toren amusement park you will find more than 60 attractions for children from 2 to 12 years old.
