A city where you will soon feel at home. You can gain a first impression of Breda’s hospitality in the city’s many restaurants and cafés. This is the welcoming philosophy that we also embrace at the Apollo Hotel Breda. It is hard to pick out what we think is particularly beautiful about Breda, as there is such a wide choice.

Historical Breda

Breda has strong ties with the Dutch royal house of Orange-Nassau and a lot of its rich history has been preserved. The market square, the Grote Markt, is the city’s central focus and it is easy to recognise thanks to its great Gothic church, the Onze Lieve Vrouwe Kerk, or Grote Kerk. The 15th-century church tower can be seen from virtually anywhere in Breda. It is not only a treasured monument for Breda residents, but also a place of national significance. Ancestors of the Dutch royal family are buried there in the Princes’ Chapel. The Royal Military Academy is one of the city’s many characteristic historical buildings. Other sights are the Begijnhof (Beguinage) museum, a hunting lodge and the beautiful citypark ’t Valkenberg park.

Shopping streets of Breda

Are you looking for some attractive streets for serious shopping or just a bit of window shopping? A visit to ’t Sas belongs at the top of your list if you are looking for more than just well-known chain stores. On this cosy (and well-hidden) square you will find trendy shops for fashion and home furnishings, each with its own character, and also a lovely café where you can sit outdoors and which is run by local entrepreneurs. In the centre of Breda are all the popular brands you could wish for, with the Barones shopping centre at its heart. There are also fun shopping areas outside the centre. In het Ginneken and the Wilhelminastraat there are more exclusive boutiques as well as excellent restaurants for a delicious end to a day’s shopping.

Breda Nightlife

On the holiday review website Zoover, Breda scores 8.6 for nightlife. No city in the Netherlands can match this, so it is no wonder that we welcome visitors from far and wide. On the Grote Markt there are numerous cafés and restaurants where many guests sit outside during summer (and winter). You can enjoy yourself day and night in Breda, as most of the cafés on the Grote Markt are open until 2:00 am. For the night owls, the fun continues until around 4:00 am on the adjacent Kerkplein and the Havermarkt.

Green Breda

Breda is also a green city. It is rich in green spaces and you do not have to go far to escape to woods, parks and water features. The best-known park is without a doubt the Valkenberg. This old castle garden is next to Apollo Hotel Breda City Centre. Further out, south of Breda, is the river Mark and Mastbos woods. This is a lovely area for walking and cycling, but also for sailing in a dinghy or canoeing.
